CANAVAN POCKETS WORLD SENIORS SLOT

Channel Islands champion Aaron Canavan has secured a place at Snooker Legends' World Seniors Championships after winning a qualifying tournament in Dunstable.
Aaron was trailing 2-0 and clawed his way back to draw level to win Sunday's final on a black ball shoot out, against fellow team mate Gary Britton and could face players like Stephen Hendry, Denis Taylor, John Parrot, Willie Thorne to name just a few.
On his way to the final Aaron did not drop a frame while Gary lost just one.
The Seniors event is set to take place in Scunthorpe in March with the winner qualifying for the following year's mainstream World Championships at the Crucible, Sheffield.
Gary registered the top break of the competition with a 93
Gary still has the chance to qualify with more tournaments early next year

NEW SEASON 2017-2018

Forms are available on the website and will also be available at Tower and St Aubin.
Could you please make sure you enter your date of birth
It is important that all the entries are submitted by Sunday the 9th July 2017 in order to work out the schedule to accommodate the Mechanics as we hope they will still enter teams
As most will know the Mechanics are closed and are unlikely to re-open this year due to major repairs to be undertaken to the roof.
We will liaise with them to arrange a venue for them to play their home games until such time as their own club re-opens but will also need help from clubs for this to be achieved.
It was agreed at the AGM that subscription and entry fees should remain the same but that each reserve will pay £5 to be a provisional member of the JB&SA
The £5 will allow the player to play 5 reserve matches. On match 6 the player will have to become a full member and pay the additional £25.00.(reserve should also complete a subscription form)
We are proposing 2 individual leagues for snooker and 2 for billiards.
Choosing the players to represent the Island by Committee has been rejected. Players will be chosen from the individual league and the Island Snooker Championship.
The top 4 winners of league 2 will represent Jersey in the Upton against Guernsey..
The individual leagues will be limited to 8 players.
The leagues will be straight NOT handicapped
Although for the snooker leagues we show the handicap criteria to qualify for each league, this may change according to the number of entries and may even have 3 leagues subject to demand.
A council meeting will be held on Wednesday the 12th July to discuss the structure for the new season, so all entries must be submitted by Sunday the 9th July 2017

For those who are interested in playing the individual league.

Individual snooker league
There will be at least two singles league depending on numbers.
They will be played on a Monday night.
Players may play before the date scheduled, but only have until the following Monday after the scheduled date to play.
The above arrangement will depend on the number of players from Tower.
I am certain we will have too many players and will not have enough tables to use on a Monday,
players should therefore be prepared to be able to play on another night.

To enter the 1st division league you must be playing off a handicap between -7 to -56
(this will change if more than or less than 8 enter.)
The entry fee of £20 will be matched by the JB&SA.
The total prize money should therefore be 8 x £20 = £160 + £160 from JB&SA = £320.
The top four players will represent the Island with the 5th player coming from the Island Snooker Championship final.
6 frames will be played

The 2nd division league will be for players on 0 to 42, (subject to the amount of entries)
The entry fee of £10 will be matched by the JB&SA
If we have too many entries we will have 3 leagues and place players in the league according to their handicap.
The top four players of division 2 will be selected to play in the Upton against Guernsey..
3 frames will be played.
In both leagues at the end of the fixtures there will be a play off between the last four players for part of the prize money. To enter the play off you must have played all the matches.
The winner of division 2 will be able to challenge the last player in the first division to decide who goes up or down or whether they stay the same for the following season

Individual billiard
To have two leagues we will need at least 12 players
If two leagues, players will be placed in the league according to their team league handicap
The entry fee for the 1st division will be £20 and if a second division it will be £10.
The JB&SA will match the entry fee for prize money
You will play for 90 minutes
In both leagues at the end of the fixtures there will be a play off between the last four players for part of the prize money. To enter the play off you must have played all the matches.
The winner of division 2 will be able to challenge the last player in the first division to decide who goes up or down or whether they stay the same for the following season

BILLIARD TEAM LEAGUE

This was the final week of the billiards league and the last match between Services and Tower's Fantastic Four was the deciding result as to who would win the league. Services went into the game knowing avoiding defeat by more than 1 point would give them the title. It was a very close game but Services just succeeded by drawing 13-13. The result was thanks to Darren Malzard playing first against Island Billiard Champion Gary Britton, scoring 6 points, playing his best billiards of the season and restricting Gary table time to only score 3 points, the first time Gary has not scored 4 or more points in a game. It was also the first time a player had scored more than 5 points against him. Gary had breaks of 62, 51. Robbie Kilpatrick kept they hopes alive by scoring 4 against Tony Venton's 5. It was down to the last pairing, Malcolm Malzard versus David Brabiner, Malcolm had to make sure of not losing by more then 3 points to force a play off or 4 points to stop the reigning champions from winning the title for the third time. Malcolm scored 3 and despite the valiant effort of David with breaks of 63 and 102 only scored 5 points. Services win the league 240 to 239
