SNOOKER HANDICAP KNOCKOUT FINAL

SNOOKER KNOCKOUT FINAL MONDAY 29TH APRIL 2019

St Brelade Steelers finished the season in style by winning the Riley Shield in a late night finish at First Tower Institute on Monday evening. St Brelade were up against St Thomas Tower, and the westerners were giving away 294 points over the 8 frames, so it was always going to be a tough challenge.                                                                                                                                      However, Sean McDonald got them off to the perfect start by beating Herbie Bruggraber by 141 points to 119, to win by 22, with McDonald conceding 35 points per frame.                                      Howard Smith on second for Tower, won 141-102 to claw back 39 points back playing against Gary Boschat, to put his team ahead by 17 points at the halfway point.                                                            Steve Thomas scored over 80 points in each frame winning 171-129 against John Baudains to regain the lead for St Brelade by 25 points after 6 frames.                                                                                  Karl Le Fevre was on last for Brelade’s, and was up against Bob Denison with the Tower man getting a healthy 49 points per frame. However, Le Fevre once again showed his class by scoring a 28 break followed by a 22 clearance to win 74-69 in his first frame meaning that including Denisons 49 handicap in the second frame Tower had an overall lead of 24 points going into the final frame. It was a fairly tight affair throughout, but Le Fevre sealed victory for St Brelade by potting the final pink, meaning that the Westerners won a very close match by 564 points to 546 to finish the season winning the knock-out trophy, and coming runners-up in the league..

INTER INSULAR

On Friday night in the C.I Billiards final played at Tower, Gary Britton defeated Martyn Desperques 500 to 301,
to win the title for the second year in a row and for the 7th time.
At the halfway mark Martyn was actually leading 259-242 having made a break of 60.
At this stage it looked like it was going to be a close finish, but a break of 78 from Gary changed the pattern
of the game, Martyn was unable to respond and with further breaks of 64 & 55 Gary stormed away and left Martyn
trailing in his wake to win by 199 points which seemed unlikely at the halfway stage.

Team snooker on Saturday resulted in a narrow win for Guernsey 13-12
Going into the last match the scores were level at 12 each
The result could have been so different had Jersey had a bit more good fortune, having lost 4 frames on the black
With the last red on the table Glenn was leading by one point 41-40.
Gary potted the red and was unfortunate for the white to just drop into middle bag.
This gave Glenn the opportunity to clear the colours and duly took his chance by potting yellow to pink to win
the deciding frame against Gary Britton 65-40, to retain the title they won last year.
The highest break went to Gary Britton with an 83 in his first frame against John Skillett

ISLAND SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

About 20 spectators came to Tower to watch the final between Gary Britton and Aaron Canavan and saw Gary come back from 3-0  down to win 4-3 to retain the title he won last year against Karl Le Fevre, and to claim the Peter Dreux Island Snooker Championship title for the sixth time, a title he first won in 1997.
At 3-0 down it looked unlikely Gary would come back into the game, but a small interval took place, Gary came out fighting and with some good potting and positional play clawed his way back to take the next four frames.
1- Aaron won 81-16
2- Aaron won 78-9 with a 73
3- Aaron won 59-29 with a 52
4- Gary won 67-27
5- Gary won 92-5 with a 62
6- Gary won 69-22 with a 55
7- Gary won 68-41   (Aaron 41, Gary 40)
In the deciding frame Aaron scored first and broke down on 41, Gary then came to the table and made a 40 and after a few safety shots with the last two reds remaining Gary made a 28 to clinch the frame with just pink and black left.
